Filatura del Vincio is a company specialized in the production of carded yarns of any color (including white).
The company started in 1874, when the Lombardi family moved from the hamlet of Usella, in the municipality of Cantagallo, in the province of Prato, to Pistoia, in the Valle del Vincio, where they bought a mill, later converted into a spinning mill.
Over the decades, the company has been handed down from generation to generation. The one who currently manages it is the fifth.

The spinning mill has a fully automated fiber blending preparation department, two carding lines and three state of the art self-acting spinning frames, two of which with automatic change of the feeding bobbins.
Advanced machinery that guarantee quality and quick deliveries. Thanks to the versatility of its plant, the company is able to produce raw and colored yarn in a wide range of counts (from Nm 5 to Nm 24) which can be made of different types of fibers, both synthetic and natural: from virgin wool and regenerated ones to the finest fibers such as cashmere, camel, yak and Angora.
The processing cycle to which the fibers are subjected includes three main phases: pre-carding, carding and spinning. To ensure fast delivery times, production is organized in a continuous cycle on three shifts of work (24h/24h).

Processing
PRE-CARDING
In the first stage of process, the fibers are properly blended in the manner and with the proportions indicated by the customer. During this phase, which allows a first 'opening' of fiber tufts and at the same time also provides the 'cleaning' of the material from any impurities, is also carried out fibers lubrification (oiling) that allows to increase the smoothness between the fibers during the subsequent carding stage, fostering their relative motion and, at the same time, trying to limit the number of breakages.
CARDING
Once the ”blend” has been prepared, it is stored in silos, from which it is then sent to the carding set, which has the aim of disentangling, mixing and parallelizing the fibers, homogenizing the various components. This is done by the joint action of swifts, pairs of worker and stripper rollers and doffers. In this way the carding set produces a uniform web of parallel fibers. The condenser divides the web emerging from the final carding machine into several rovings or slubbings which are collected in “bobbins”.
CARDING
The company has two carding lines, both composed of a breast section plus four cards, two intermediate cross feedings and two crush (“Peralta”) rollers.
The first one, consists of an automatic Ramella carding set, with a working width of 3,50 meters, it is used to produce yarns from Nm 5 to Nm 15.
The second, instead, consists of a Gattai carding set, with a working width of 1,60 meters, suitable to produce samples and small batches of yarn, as well. The yarn produced by this machine varies in a range of counts between Nm 8 to Nm 24.

SPINNING
The slubbings coming from the carding sets are then processed on two state of the art Bigagli mule spinning machines, equipped with a frame for the automatic change of the feeding bobbins.
The company also has a third small mule spinning machine with a lower number of spindles that allows to better manage both the processing of small batches of material and the end of the lot, by substantially reducing the waste from the production of the carding sets in terms of unspun slubbing.
